I swear I watched like three episodes in the middle of this season (including the one where they were stranded on the island during the storm) and until they brought up Finch's ex-wife (of whomever she was) I swear I thought Reese and Finch were in some weird codependent romantic relationship.

They're definitely in a canonically codependent working relationship and also the bestest of friends, so you are not far off.

Have you watched the series beyond that? It's basically "Lonely Old Vigilantes and Friends: The Show".
