it plays into a lot of narratives that i don't care for

also i don't think that's really a "code" so much as "what the word means"

Well...no?

"Problematic" goes beyond "I don't like this." I don't like the color yellow, for example. That doesn't make the color yellow problematic.

Something that's problematic is something that has greater social or cultural effects.

...exactly! The term progressive is literally problematic. It carries with it a lot of ideological baggage that has greater social and cultural effects.

I've come to hate the word problematic, too, but only because of the people I keep read use it. The word itself is still valid. Hell, I wish I could reclaim it.
