"A well thought out Hogwarts or other magic themed AU involving an actual plot and worldbuliding = I would read with interest for however long the story continued, SPaG permitting.
As for fanart being 'more socially acceptable', have you seen all the fanfic being published right now? I'd say society had pretty thoroughly accepted EL James even though I sincerely wished they hadn't.
And as for not every fanfic writer being employed as a writer, it's called a hobby. I also ride horses but am not a professional jockey. I sing in the shower but am not Lady GaGa. I just made myself breakfast but am not Gordon Ramsey. Should I stop doing all these things because nobody is paying me to do them?
I'm not saying that I don't like fanart or that I don't find fanart just as worthwhile, cause I do, I appreciate all manner of fanworks because somebody has taken time out of their lives to create them either just for their own enjoyment or for the enjoyment of others.
