I don't know, depending on the fandom you can get up to like...40% worth sticking around for.

True. And then you get the fandoms with 10% not-crap, 20-30% crap with enough redeeming features to be entertaining if you're looking to scratch a particular (character, ship, missing scene, narrative, sexual...) itch.

The worst though, is when you find a fic with a rare pairing and/or theme you like but the writing is subpar. And you are just like, (ಠ_ಠ). Do I or don't I?

If I think the premise is good enough, I'll just outright edit that shit, then go back and (re)read it later.
