Doctor Who

So I got Netflix and decided on whim to start watching Doctor Who, not really expecting much. I ended up getting hooked half-way into series 1 DX. I'm about to start series 3 but I've also been considering trying out Torchwood. Anyone know when's the best time to start it? Should I wait until I've caught up to DW, or can I just go for it?

Also, does anyone have any AWESOME series 1 & 2 fanfiction recs? I've tried reading a few that were on rec lists but in all honesty they weren't very good. I LOVE the 9th Doctor and Rose like no one's business, so Nine/Rose would be super appreciated. I'm also totally down for any relationship combination of Nine, Ten, Jack Harkness, and Rose (threesomes, slash, het, etc). Gen fics with a focus on the epic friendship between Nine+Rose & Nine+Ten (or Nine+Rose+Jack) would also be appreciated. AU's are totally fine, too.

I actually watched Torchwood while watching series 3, mostly because the ending of series 2 devastated me (I loved Rose so much, though I adore Martha as well). I think any time would be fine, really, so if you want to start it, go for it.

looking to see if I have fic recs... As you probably already know Nine/Rose is rarer than Ten/Rose (though I love both dearly), so I'll have to see if I have anything bookmarked.

Series 1 of Torchwood occurs at roughly the same time as series 3 of Doctor Who (with the last ep of TW S1 ending where DW's "Utopia" begins) so you're actually at a really good juncture to start watching it. Go for it!

That's one of my favorite fics. It has Nine, Rose, and Jack. It's sort of shippy, but not more than canon is.
