Lol, that guy hasn't read many fairy tales.
I have a big fat book that has fairy tales from around the world and it's got a shit ton of male leads (oftentimes the story is only about men, with women only being there as side characters).

So yeah, excuses excuses.

But you didn't miss out on anything.
That movie was a pain to watch. The visuals were great but the performances were painful and the character motivations were weird. Also, the "love story" made me laugh. It seriously opens with the fact that one of the witches is instantly in love with the protagonist.
This movie would have benefited from "show don't tell".
