Are furries/otaku etc, asexual?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-24 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen people being so into drawn porn (of humans/anthros/whatever) they find thinking about real people in a sexual way revolting. Are they asexual???

I think the real question is if that matters.

No, they're just sexually attracted to people who don't exist and have extremely unrealistic standards of attractiveness.

I'd still like a clear and definite definition of asexual. I'm trying to hard to understand it. >_

There really isn't a clear cut definition, but might I ask what you're having trouble with?

What is a clear and definite definition of a homosexual? A person sexually attracted to their own sex.

A clear and definite definition of a heterosexual? A person sexually attracted to the opposite sex.

So then, a clear and definite definition of an asexual person is...?

The closest you're going to get is 'Someone who does not experience sexual attraction'.

Note: That has nothing to do with actual having sex, or enjoying the act of sex - just not looking at someone and having a 'Damn, they fine!' reaction.

But that's a terrible marker too. I never see a randomer and think "damn, they're fine". Not even celebrities. But I'm not asexual at all. I just don't react to people that way.

I think that's considered a fetish at that point (in the clinical/psychological sense - that is, something that must be there for one to be aroused).

Asexuals generally wouldn't be aroused by anything (barring non-specific arousal from hormonal fluctuations or whatever).

Not that it really matters to you if you fall into neither of these groups.

...and now I can't be asexual anymore. Okay.

I keep getting conflicting answers on whether fetishists can be asexual. Particularly fetishists for whom the thing that arouses them has nothing to do with sex.

Honestly, I have no clue. I'm not an expert in sexual psychology, and even if I was, I probably still wouldn't have an answer for you.

Personally, I take an "If the shoe fits..." approach to all this - if you've got a clear enough definition of your own sexuality and "asexual" feels like the best-fitting label, then go with it. It's not like it hurts anybody.
