One is a story about how powerful females are vilified by men in power.
The other is a male power fantasy.

DA, and haven't seen the movie, but it looks like the basic premise is that he fails at everything irl, bumbles his way into a magic land, the magical women there dub him the savior of prophecy and eventually he becomes the supreme ruler of everything. So less about "male protagonist full stop" and more about "male protagonist that rises from obscurity to become the hero king while seducing/enthralling the ruling female."

Like how the aliens in Avatar needed a foreign dude who disdained their culture to come in and be their Best Warrior Ever and marry their princess and teach them how to be the best Navi they could be?

(Again, just assuming based on the context of the conversation and what little I know of the movie.)
