Actually the screen writers admit it's an alternate continuity and even Baum's canon represent the wizard quite differently on his return to Oz in Dorothy and the Wizard then he's presented in the first two books. I enjoyed the new movie I think it has it's flaws but it trys to keep the to the spirit of Baum's work... I just wish it had a female protagonist, oh well maybe for the next film?
