Yeah, seriously. I mean, no one needs to like them because no one needs to like anyone, but if you can't understand why people would still love and appreciate a band that could produce Help! AND Revolver AND The White Album AND Abbey Road (to name just a few key examples of their evolving style) over the years, I can't help you.

In the end, The Beatles are, and will probably always be, my favorite band preciously because no matter how I'm feeling or what kind of sound I'm into at the moment, they have SOMETHING that appeals to me.

Again, fine if you don't like their voices or songs, but a) that range of musical creativity IS special, whether or not it appeals to you, and b) anyone who is seriously trying to compare them to 1D can come back to me when 1D starts writing their own music and experimenting with different sounds.

(I've had one friend argue that Justin Timberlake is like The Beatles in a lot of ways. While obviously he's not at quite that same level of fame or, IMO, quite that same level of talent, I do think that's actually a much more legitimate comparison -- he's a major talent who has continually evolved his sound and, I believe, writes and even produces a lot of his music.)
