Tumblr Question

(Anonymous) 2013-03-25 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there any way to jump back by about a year in a Tumblr tag short of hours of scrolling?

I think if you go to the Mass Edit, you can find whatever month/year a post was from and just click on it.

I would check, but it's not letting me log in :/

Thanks a million for your help. I think possibly that won't work for getting historical posts from a tracked tag though? Like, I want to see what everyone across Tumblr was tagging with a year ago.

I hope Tumblr stops messing you about and let's you log in soon, btw.

Oh! Bah, I read that wrong -_-

I'm sorry I can't be of any help! I'm actually quite interested in the answer though. I hope there is a way!

Type /page/### after the url on the tumblr's first page. Change ### to number of your choice. Page 1 is /page/1, page 23 is /page/23 etc.

Thanks a million for your help, anon. Unfortunately it's not a particular Tumblr I want to look back through - it's a general tag. And they aren't paginated the same way from what I can tell.

I think if you turn off infinite scrolling, everything gets paginated, so then that should work with a general tag too?

Re: Tumblr Question

(Anonymous) 2013-03-26 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately not :/

The url format in paginated tags looks like this:
tagged/[tag]?before=1364067734

I can't make any coherent sense out of the numbering system to work out how to mess with it. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it.

That number is for unix time.

http://www.onlineconversion.com/unix_time.htm

Use this site to convert the date you want to replace to unix time, and replace the number in the url with the number the site gives you.

Hit someone's archive, go back to the desired month at least, hit a post, and if you have missing e, you can go to that spot on your dash.

This sounds closest to what I need. I'll install Missing E and play around. But it's not my dash I want - it's a tracked tag. Not sure if it'll work the same.

If a year back is closer to the beginning of the tag, then using /tagged/[tag]/chrono might help you get to it faster, since it shows you the oldest post first.

I don't think there's an option like that to get through a tumblr tag. The only thing I know if that's similar is (with an extension) when you are checking out a post on someone's tumblr, there's an option next to dashboard and follow and stuff that just says dash that'll take you back to your dashboard when that post was posted.
But yeah, not helpful. It's probably something you will have to spend hours doing.
