Apartment shopping?

[personal profile] loracarol 2013-03-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, I'm looking for an apartment/house-for-rent, and this will be the first time I've gone searching for one. It's for while I'm living on campus, and I won't be alone.

I was wondering, do you guys know of any good websites for searching (if it helps, I'm in Oregon)? Like, I figured I'd at least look at Craigslist, but do you know of any others?

Since you mentioned campus, many universities have resources for finding off-campus housing. Check out your school's website.

Other than that I've mostly used Craigslist.

apartmentfinder.com.

Homefinder.com and realtor.com also have rental tabs, it looks like.

See if your university has a classified-type website. See if there's any companies that rent a lot of real estate where you are - I know my uni had one company that rented like half of the buildings where students lived (they were terrible though). Ask your friends how they found buildings to rent.

I hadn't really thought of that, I'll start looking to see if my college has one, thanks~ :)

You should check with your college, they might have special listings. I know my college had a website that would gather all the area listings together. It also made sure the renters were okay with renting to college 'kids', which some weren't. Occasionally if you went through the college you'd also get some kind of discount or something.

Yes, this. And sometimes you get some very useful information about landlords from that site. For instance, in my hometown there was a guy who owned a lot of campustown residential property...but the university's landlord website listing removed him from their list of area landlords because he was notorious for withholding deposits for trumped-up excuses.

padmapper.com! it is a kind of aggregate that shows all listings from major renting sites(craigslist, private listors, things like that) on a google maps, so you can decide how many Bedrooms, prize scale, w/roommates and decide on where it is.
