People are social animals by nature; even the most introverted of introverts needs some human contact and emotional connections. When you see people around you in happy and loving relationships (romantic and otherwise), how can you not miss that, even if (especially if) you've never had it yourself? Never experiencing love of any kind with another person seems so... desolate.
