I'm Sad.

Is that a good enough reason to call in sick? I feel like if I move from this spot I'll start crying. And I don't know why.

I do this, but then I also get paid sick leave. The rule for me is pretty much "if you're not going to be productive and earn that paycheck, don't go to work."

It's worked out so far. :)

It's called an Emotional Health day.

Which is a valid reason to take time off work, though some places don't treat them as valid. Depending on your workplace, you might think of something - like saying you're car is having battery troubles - as an excuse.

Feel better!!

Crippling depression is a good enough reason to call in sick, but you should probably also take some steps to address the depression.

Don't worry, you'll have a perfectly good reason when you lose your job.

Depression sucks, but this is only going to make it worse.

Not necessarily. It's all very situational, and depending on the job, the occasional sick day doesn't mean diddly squat.

You don't actually have to tell your work the real reason you're calling in sick if you feel uncomfortable with it. You can just say you have a stomach bug or food poisoning or whatever. (For the record, I think it's a totally valid reason, but depending on where you work/how understanding your boss is there might be stigma attached to taking a mental health day).

Yes it absolutely is. If your boss is not the type to understand or believe in such things, call it a stomach bug and you are in the potty all day, they cent really argue with that.

Your mental health is far more important than one day of work that you would not be able to be productive during anyway.
