I don't have any friends in college.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-26 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a freshman in college, and I'm kind of depressed because I feel like I don't have any friends. I try to reach out to people. I ask them to go shopping with me or to go out to lunch with me, and they do sometimes, but I'm pretty sure they still just consider me an acquaintance.

I just really miss my high school friends. They were so awesome, and I talk to them on the phone and hang out with them during winter and summer break, but I'm sad because I feel like I'll never make friends with anyone as great as them when I'm in college.

Sorry. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

*hugs*

Have you joined any clubs or organizations or maybe study groups in your classes? those can be good ways to meet people.

I joined a sports team, but they party a lot. I've tried to go to parties, but they just exhaust me, and I usually end up having no fun. I'm thinking joining some study groups would help, though!

Hey, it's freshman year. There's still time. Don't sweat it. Just take it easy and do things you like to do and if you like people try to hang out with them and do stuff, I guess.

Also like Lunabee said try joining clubs and stuff.

I didn't really have friends until a little ways into my sophmore year. Join clubs. Keep being chatty with people and keep inviting them places - it might eventually lead somewhere. See if there are events for undergrads in your major.

People have to be your acquaintance before they can be a close friend. That's just how it works.

Look closely at your situation. You might be doing just fine and psyching yourself out.

This was me when I was in college. It didn't help that my two BFFs from high school were still in high school and were too busy being all "OMG We're having so much fun together!" to remember me. I got really depressed, but I did learn a lot about self reliance and becoming much more comfortable doing things by myself. I did eventually connect really well with a friend who went to the same college as me. Best friend swap ever!
