Just a curious psychology student, how are you using cognitive dissonance here? For as fas as I know it's when you've made a decision (say, bought a car) and later on (when the new models come out) you start to wonder if you've made the right decision. That doesn't seem to match how you're using it though, is there another meaning to it?

I am using it in a totally imprecise and wrong way. It was just something I said off the top of my head writing a quick comment, it wasn't actually the word I was looking for (which was just "dissonance") but hopefully it got the message across.
