I'm on here defending Jensen too but...how much TV do you watch? One of the best actors on TV? Really?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
*shrug* Just my opinion. I don't really think TV has a buttload of talented actors, to be honest.

The point is that it's an opinion that reflects very badly on your overall judgement of what constitutes acting talent.

For whatever it's worth, the only people who will take someone who says they have "some issues with Aaron Paul" while claiming that "Jensen Ackles is a fabulous actor", "Definitely one of the best actors on TV right now." seriously are... other Jensen Ackles fans. The weirder ones. I doubt even Jensen Ackles's own mom thinks her son is among the best actors on tv right now. No, really.

(Anon at the start of this thread)

Personally, I have no interest in watching Breaking Bad and so have no opinion on Aaron Paul whatsoever. Nonetheless, there's a reason a huge number of critics and viewers consider this to be a "Golden Age" of television. There are even movie stars and trained theater performers (and I don't mean matinee idols, but top-notch quality actors) that would never have considered TV before now happily taking roles. Part of that is due to the writing and concepts to be sure, but a huge part is also due to the caliber of performances. For the other anon to say there isn't a lot of good acting on TV to the point that a better-than-average-for-a-genre-CW show (and again, I think Jensen does do well) is one of the best...I mean, that's not just an unlikely personal opinion anymore. That, as you say, detracts from our ability to take the other anon's judgment at all seriously.

I'm now running the risk of jumping into my annual awards-season rant of "No, that wasn't a 'snub.' Just because a show/actor/actress is your favorite does not make it/him/her the best. While they can overlap, there's still a difference between entertainment for the masses and talented artistic achievement." So I'll shut up now.
