I don't know if Vriska can get better, but she definitely won't if no one ever tells her she's doing anything wrong.

I once had a friend who was p. much like Vriska (right down to the manipulation part), and I was like Tavros. Took me 8 years, but I finally stood up to them and ended the friendship not that long ago.

This, of course, made the recent update immensely satisfying.

I'm not a Homestuck fan, but didn't Vriska die in a way that specifically prevented her from coming back? (There was something to do with a cosmic pendulum that was stuck between "heroic" and "just", as I recall.)

Oh, she's a ghost right now. (A lot of the characters are currently ghosts, come to think of it.) You're right, though, Terezi killed her in such a way that her god tier powers couldn't kick in and resurrect her.

vriska and tavros are both dead. there's a dreambubble afterlife where ghosts and sleeping living players can meet. That's where this stuff is happening.

Ok. As a Vriska fan? I take issue with this.

Vriska is unequivocally my favorite character. I love her because she's complex, badass, and has a lot of potential. But she is messed up. Her upbringing was damaging - having to feed other trolls to her lusus to survive? Yeah. Her base nature is somewhat abhorrent, too. She's power-hungry, corrupt, and self-centered to an extreme.

And she was abusive to Tavros. Downright, unequivocally abusive. So yes, you are victim-blaming. None of what Vriska did to Tavros was his fault.

Actually, while the recent updates both made me very annoyed at Vriska and also punched huge holes in my OTP (JohnVris), my favorite thing about it was how Tavros finally stood up to her. I was so proud of him :') He needs to do what is good for him rather than hanging around her while she continues to use him. BUT. That is NOT to say that it was his fault that he was stuck with her before.

I want this (him leaving, Sol/Fef/Nep leaving, John potentially leaving) to be the push she needs to realize how selfish she is being and change her tune. She really needs some development right now. But this is kind of true of abusive situations irl...sometimes a strong message/ultimatum from the abusee is the push that influences the abuser to change...but it is NEVER the victim's fault that they are being abused, nor are they responsible for the abuser's behavior.

I just got really frustrated when dream-bubble Tavros decided he had a thing for Vriska. She's bad for him. She's never been good for him, even when she thought she was. And Tavros knew it, he just had trouble following through on walking away from her, or circumstances prevented it, or she followed him. He dies, and suddenly forgets that nothing about this is a good idea? Just, stop! Stop validating that behavior! Why are you validating that behavior! Just-- Aaaand he stopped, so I can't complain.

Also, if you go back a ways in the comic, it is worth noting that Tavros doesn't want to go on the pirate adventure, and he tells Vriska he won't. And then she mindcontrols him into saying he will, with the obvious implication that she'll keep forcing him if she has to.

So he came along, and waited, and grumbled until he couldn't put up with her bullshit anymore and also she was already using all her power to keep the ghost armada in line. And when he was sure he could leave, he did. Even before the recent updates, it's unfair to blame him for 'enabling' when she literally forces him to come along.

eta: ok i read your first comment but i'm still angry that you'd blame tavros for his treatment?? yeah he might have fallen for/stuck with vriska (assuming there wasn't mind control or some shit at play - it hasn't been touched up on all that much) but he's still not to blame for someone else being a piece of shit to him.

I never saw her and having a personality disorder so much as just, well, being cruel. And I don't see how Tavros is somehow better abled with all the crap she's put him through.

Tavros was ready to wash his hands of her when he died, nonny.

It's hard standing up to someone who spent years and years telling you you were weak, someone who could, and DID, control you at their whims.

And then they spent over a year alone together. Or eons in the dream bubbles. That enough to warp anyones perspective on another person.

I'm just REALLY REALLY happy that it was Tavros that ended it. }:)
