how do you differentiate between "It sucks now because someone else is writing it"; "I think it's still good but other people sucks now because someone else is writing it and they have different tastes"; and "I think it's still good but other people think it sucks now because they're misogynists"

like, I'm sure there would be people doing dumb blathering about how female authors suck, and fuck those people. but it seems like a strange position to stake out / a strange thing to be worried about when we don't even know it'll happen or how it'll turn out or what kinds of judgments the thing is going to merit.

yeah. i don't know. wait and see what happens, and what the discourse is, and then criticize it. positioning yrself in advance like this makes it seem as though you're ignoring the very real possibility that it does suck and pre-emptively getting defensive about it, even if you're not.

Agreed :( His daughter might continue it and it might rock, but I'd still miss him a lot, and it'd be different.

I'm pretty sure that someone else is already writing them, at least partly, since the last book had some paragraphs that felt a bit jarring and different than his usual style. His daughter might actually have a better chance of being accepted than other people, because people expect her to be familiar with her dad's style and way of thinking.

There has been a clarification on that press release. She isn't going to write any Discworld novels herself, just manage the properties when he dies. She'll contribute to his production company on the upcoming Watch series, but she'll just be like any other hired writer on that though. Any novel writing she does will be on her subjects.

There will be no post mortem publications either, its not going to be a Chris Tolkien situation.

I really don't like this ?trend? of Author's letting their children continue writing stories for their worlds.

The writing will be different, it's being written by a different person.

I don't care if they'd be worse or not, they wouldn't be canon for me. Pterry might be getting help with the writing now, but at least he still has to look at the writing and approve of it. If his daughter really starts writing Discworld books, they'll be nothing but published fanfiction.

She won't actually be writing Discworld novel as far as I'm informed? Is this a new developement?

Though I would prefer the series not be continued after Sir Terry quits (from whatever reasons. Alzheimer. Death.), I wouldn't awefully mind her writing books set on the Discworld or in a similar setting. She wrote the scripts for Overlord, she's got her father's humour alright.
