Re: Does mayonnaise really get rid of lice?

Or petroleum jelly. You need to saturate your head, and wrap it in cling wrap for eight hours. Then you need one of these suckers http://nitwits.com.au/Nit_Combs , and either a *really* good friend, or copious amounts of both time and patience.

Don't bother with the pesticide treatments, the chemicals will toxify you, and most lice are resistant, these days. Manual suffocation and removal is the only way to go. (That site I linked provides the necessary steps.)

BTW, what were these kids DOING to/with you, that you got their lice??

I rocked one of them to sleep on my shoulder and then let him have my hoodie for a pillow, and the other one got very clingy and affectionate when they had to leave.

I even noticed one of their heads smelled funny. If only it had clicked for me then! >:(

ayrt

Yep, that'll do it. Sucks, man. I had hair down to my butt, couldn't cut it for religious reasons, and then I ended up in a truly hellacious school district where I was infested with the little critters TWICE. Sucks, man.

RID worked then, but that was mumbletytoomany years ago and like I say, now they're resistant. Cover, contain, control.

You'll also want to wash all the bedsheets and pillow cases (also run any pillows through the dryer on the highest setting), on the hot setting in your washer.

When you comb the eggs out, you have to "crack" them between your fingernails to kill the eggs.

You only really need to be near them for the lice to jump, which is why kids who have them get sent home.

My boyfriend would get nits as a kid because he had thick, clean hair that they could latch onto easily. He used some sort of commercial shampoo to kill 'em and his mom combed it out. Apparently any chemical treatment (like hair bleach or dye) will also kill the suckers. The hard part is getting every last nit combed out.

Now that everyone is mentioning it, I didn't even think about how lice may have gotten resistant. I had lice like twelve or thirteen years ago. . .lice are probably resistant now to the stuff I used back then :/
