Just as I missed this f!s post.

I just. I want to curl up on my bed and die. Instead I'm hanging about in a town which is situated three hundred miles away from mine, and I'm calling everyone informing them about the situation, trying to figure out the way to fix it, and I'm utterly miserable.

Have you contacted the customer service desk of the airline? You may still be able to fly tomorrow or later today, so long as you can get to the airport--you'd just be on standby status, and possibly you can even escape paying for a whole new ticket.

My father once missed his flight because he got the day mixed up--but he was able to fly standby and get home the next day.

Yes, I'm considering doing this. However, the problem is that I forgot my passport in my town and am now conducting a complex scheme that is supposed to transfer it to me. It involves a couple of my relatives, which makes me feel a whole lot worse (it's fucking early here).

Good luck! I hope they can get your passport to you with a minimum of fuss and delays, and that you get friendly, willing help from Customer Service. I know that when I missed a plane, myself, I felt I had done something just beyond the pale, practically unheard-of in its stupidity. (TBH, it really was a case of bad time management and me acting like I could instantaneously teleport from one end of the terminal to the other.) I was so embarrassed it was difficult to pick up the internal phone and call Customer Service. But they obviously deal with this kind of thing all the time. People make mistakes. They found another flight for me within a couple of hours, and IIRC, there was not even a charge.

It'll all work out, though. Shit happens. You'll get to where you want to go and this sucks but you'll fix it and it'll be fine.
