I don't know why they'd be so shocked. It's a game. I'm a very non-violent peaceful person but I enjoy a good animated explosion as much as the next person.

I guess it's less of the fact that it's a violent game than it is me playing it that gets them. To my friends, I am the one who rarely swears, is always polite and (besides a few subjects) always turns his homework in.

The fact that I play this game at all is... quite shocking to them, to say the least.

No, you can</> play and like video games but usually when people think of a respectful person they usually don't think said respectful person playing this game.

I should point out by this point that I'm from Asia and that this kind of thinking kinda runs the gamut of almost every adult I have met, excluding my parents and close friends. We even had a radio announcer a few months back telling others how to 'spot' a homosexual that was just so full of wrong that my dad and I immediately spoke about how stupid it was.

So... Yeah. What might be seen as normal in some places is seen as weird in others, including video games.

It's kinda cool that all your friends even know what game this is OP. If it were me my friends would stop at "nerd" and never quite reach "scary sociopath" (which is what I'm guessing you're going for).

Nah, my friends never thought of me as such, even after I told them I played this game. Most of them are gamers and most of them also made an agreement that you're not a sociopath unless you play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Which I rarely play due to always buying cheapshot-pirated disks).

I think most of it stems from the fact that you can kill just about anybody with almost no regrets that makes my friends think of that, which makes them playing the game by themselves slightly ironic. From what I have seen/heard of my friends playing it, they usually play the game with two players and then try to kill one another using whatever means necessary. A little weird to be honest, but not necessarily an indicator of one being a sociopath.

This is my life. I'm normally a happy, upbeat, feminine person, but then I go home and play something like Hotline Miami which is uber-violent.

I tend to associate that more with games where you can like chop a person up into pieces.

I don't know why they're so surprised, but I guess it might have something to do with your demeanor, like you've said. But it's perfectly normal and ok to like video games that include violence even if you're very pacifistic.
