Oh dear, have I really developed that much of a reputation? ;)

I have a non-con kink a mile wide, especially for Doctor/Master, so I'd have to do some sifting on my usual recs list. But I share the secret-maker's lack of patience with fics where the Doctor is a helpless punching bag for the Master--the foundation of the pairing for me is that they're forever playing games with each other and their power dynamics are always flipping and turning inside-out. It's boring when one of them wins and stays the winner.

Okay. Off the top of my head.

- New Dawn Fades is a classic, obviously.
- Chasing the Paradox by nemaline on LJ is longfic in a similar vein but better, IMO, and probably right up the secret-poster's alley.
- Eclipsing Binary by AstroGirl (on AO3 and probably other places) is short, but it is the Doctor/Master fic of my heart and soul.
- Anything by Aria (on AO3 and Dreamwidth; ariastar on LJ) is going to be fantastic, but I'm going to single out The Naming of Things and her fan-written Season Four and Season Five as particularly glorious.
- For really good uneasy-truce fic with dead Gallifrey angst, consensual BDSM, and occasional detours into Ten's scary Family-of-Blood side, Need by Lamiel (on Teaspoon).
- For spot-on fluffy crack, all of nostalgia_lj's Doctor/Master fic.
- x_los does rly rly good rarepair/mismatched-era Doctor/Master, often with a bizarrely fluffy bent.
- Operator, Operator by neveralarch (on AO3 and LJ) is a precious jewel of crack.

...I'M SURE THERE'S MORE those are just the ones I could keysmash about forever. I tried to avoid reccing any noncon-y ones (which pains my soul because some of them are excellent), but my memory of some of the longfic is spotty so do heed warnings.

Ah, so the inferior slash pairing.

I've always wondered this, so I'll ask here.

For those of you who don't see the canon-context of Master/Doctor: How did you interpret End of Time? I remember watching that and saying, "If this isn't two exes who still having Feelings for each other even though it could never be anywhere near healthy with all their history, than I don't know what is."

I can't speak for others, but I saw two characters with a very long, antagonistic history between them who both had some commonalities in regards to their feelings and morals concerning their home and that home's place in the universe.

I ship Doctor/Master but I don't think they ever were or will be together romantically. I think it would actually hurt the episodes of them that have already aired in the last 50 years. I prefer the pairing to stay in my head or in the few non dark, non extreme BDSM fics I can find.

Two former friends for whom loyalty and rivalry have intertwined so much that there's no separating them. Romance isn't the only deep and impactful relationship people can have, so it's perfectly possible to acknowledge a connection between the characters without interpreting it in a romantic light.

I think the reason there isn't more redemption!Master fanfic is because there's this weird niggling feeling that it's kind of...blasphemous? Like, in the show, the Master is evil, has been evil for over forty years, and probably will be evil for the foreseeable future, and even if he turns good in canon, it will be temporary. So there's this weird discomfort with making him good.

Kind of like how very few authors ever dare write about non-canon Twelfth+ incarnation of the Doctor apart from the Valeyard. Or ever dare write about the Doctor legit dying permanently. Or the TARDIS being permanently destroyed. They're okay with doing all kinds of never-gonna-happen stuff with companions, because they're more like normal TV characters, but the Doctor and Master aren't really.

I'm sure there are fics like that. Personally, I loved the fics where the relationship is really messed up, the Master is still evil, and things are just generally dark. And I have a hard time reading the Master as redeemable. But I'm sure people have written it.

The only not-a-horrifying-trainwreck version of Doctor/Master I care about is One/Whoever-the-first-Master-was, so I hadn't noticed this, but I don't think this is some stupid opinion. There's a big difference between "suddenly, they were in wuv!" and and a story that actually does the legwork to make the relationship believable.

Mmmh. I'm not sure I can subscribe to any version of the pairing where the Master isn't a bastard and he and the Doctor don't play fucked-up power games every time they're onscreen together. Which isn't to say I like him beating up on helpless-punching-bag!Doctor, because the fucked-up power games are only fun if they're a match for each other. And I don't think every fic has to go super-dark. Like, I'd happily read fic with them scheming and counter-scheming about which pair of curtains to pick out as long as they really are putting considerable ingenuity into petty point-scoring and driving each other up the wall. But the Master will never be convincing to me without at least the implied threat of violence (physical, psychological, sexual, whatever) behind the games. It's just... not something he's ever had any scruples about, and likely he never will, not without becoming a completely different character.

Oh damn you, now I want to read fic about them going curtain shopping while scheming about one-upping each other.

These are so not what OP asked for but they're funny and short and feature a Doctor and Master who are definitely equals. First story is PG13 for swearing and mildly Ten/Rose.

OOC is when it just IS like that randomly. OP seems to be wanting a scenario where a relationship progresses from the canon one to a different one in a believable way.

I think the obvious answer to OP wondering why she can't find any is because that takes talent, and no fandom is exempt from Sturgeon's Law.
