I gave up after season five too. They'd killed several characters I really liked, like Bela and Jo, as well as I just sort of lost interest after season five. I couldn't get into season six so I just stopped watching completely.

As you can tell from my icons, I liked Bela as well. I was willing to deal with her death, even though I didn't like it. But then there was Ellen and Jo, which I hated (especially Ellen). And then there was Anna. And I was like "Can't you let me have any female characters?" I kept recording through the end of season 5, but I never ended up watching them and deleted them instead.

I was also kind of annoyed that revealed that Ruby was evil the entire time and then killed her off. I liked Ruby. Actually, I liked pretty much all of these characters you've mentioned. They were all interesting and I would have liked to see more of them.

Oh, yeah, Ruby too. I know most of fandom hated a lot of the female characters (especially Bela and I think Ruby), but I wasn't one of them. I totally agree that they all had potential and I would have liked to see more. But, oh well. There are other shows with interesting female characters that I can watch instead. And I'll continue to RP Bela and things like that to explore what I miss.

Oh, I'm the anon from the other day with the fic recs. Hi! :)

But yeah, this show's been abysmal on them. And I guess I'd fooled myself into thinking Meg was exempt, because she's been on since s1 and we still had lots of unanswered questions about her backstory with Azazel and it would be such awesome storytelling if the first real demon character we encountered had a major role as the show wound down...

Nope! Silly me!

(And I'm with you on everybody else. I wish we'd gotten some kind of a sop in later episodes that Dean found out what Bela's real story was and showed some kind of regret. Jo and Ellen were heartbreaking, but at least their deaths were portrayed as a big fucking deal, Ellen was the biggest badass in the world there at the end and there've been nods to them both on occasion since. Anna was character assassination pure and simple.)

This is me, pretty much. I gave season six a shot, but it just seemed really pointless. I didn't like where season five ended, but at least it felt like an ending with some character development maintained. Season six and after that...not so much. :/
