What exactly did you do to your hard drive? Is it an external one? Tell me more about your setup, OP, and what you can do and can't.

Thank you very much, but I've been testing various data recovery programs all day and finally forked out some cash (a little more than I can afford, but it was ALL RIGHT THERE!), so I am now saving all the recovered files to a different drive. I think I have basically everything back again? I plan to spend tomorrow backing it all up and then I am going to relax again.

Basically, I freaked out because I removed the usb connector prematurely while I was using the Ubuntu OS installed on my external hard drive (which used to be my old laptop) and my dad is always talking about how unforgiving Linux is. So when I couldn't boot up in Ubuntu and half the folders on the drive showed up as corrupted in Windows I thought I'd wiped it all! That looks like a false alarm now, luckily. But thank you again.
