well according to a thing I saw on tumblr recently (so take it with a grain of salt because I don't know the source), it's because they think you suck at hunting and don't want you to starve

This sounds like what you're talking about! It's a comedy site, so yeah, grain of salt, but it's still really interesting.

Knowing cats though, it makes enough sense.

At least your cat brings you things. Mine would run away with her catches because she knew I'd take them from her before she was done playing. I'd've just let her play, except, you know, torture and stepping on a squishy corpse hidden somewhere unfortunate. My cuddly little murderer.

One of my cats does something similar. She's a really good hunter (she can catch even the fastest moths), but she's more interested in playing with her catches than eating them. There are no rodents around for her to get, but I've walked in on her batting poor little insects around like soccer balls.

Once she figured out that we'll take the insects away from her, she started running off with them. My mom has found them in her bed occasionally, which doesn't please her at all.

Eaaargh, mine had rodents around for her amusement, and I have no doubt I would have found one in my bed at some point if I got into the habit of letting her keep them. I retract all envy over my cat not bringing me things.

What adds insult to injury is that my cat doesn't even intend to bring them to us. She just thinks my mom's bed is a nice, quiet place to hang out and play. (I'm just glad she hasn't extended her territory to my bed. Though, she's been in my bedroom more lately, so maybe I should be concerned about spring coming.)
