It just makes you incredibly defensive.

Being a member of the fandom doesn't make you stupid or antifeminist, but if you deny that Twilight has some serious issues with how it portrays romance and female characters, then you probably are at least one of those things.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Or in denial, or lying!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Or very sheltered and messed up.

Or very young

Can I use your quote in a report I'm doing about feminism in books? (And if you'd rather rephrase it first, say so, not that there's anything wrong with how it's phrased here.)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
So long as you point out how ludicrously wrong it is? Otherwise your report will/ought to be torn to pieces.

What exactly is wrong with it? It's fine to enjoy things that are anti-feminist, denying that there's anything wrong with them IS wrong.

Feel free! I didn't think it was anything that unique or special, though.

This is a (late late late) reply, I know, but feel free.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
OK.

It's okay! I'm sure you're very nice, as your angry secret indicates!

It just means you have shit taste in books.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Very true. You're in the fandom because you're stupid and antifeminist, not the other way around.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
...yes it does.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I hate that the term anti-feminist is slapped on every little thing. Ok, so Twilight? Is definitely anti-feminist in every way possible (not to mention absolutely dull and idiotic, but that's another thing entirely). Someone LIKING Twilight does not make them anti-feminist in any way, JFC.

As long as you can read the books/watch the movies and acknowledge that no, Twilight isn't pro-feminism in any way, shape, or form, then you're fine.

Seriously, I wish people would stop being so darn stupid. Some of my favorite films/series (North & South, Phantom of the Opera, The Sounds of Music, etc) contain so many anti-feminist aspects, but me enjoying them despite that doesn't make ME anti-feminist.

Use your brains, people.

Yeah. Most people are allowed to read (and like) Robert E. Howard or H.P. Lovecraft without being accused of racism. Which I think is pretty fair as long as you aren't in denial about those folks.

I just judge Twihards for their lousy taste.

Now, the ones that actually describe the relationship as ideal, I can see where you might apply more. But it shouldn't be a blanket accusation.

I agree with you OP. You are not alone.
