I want to have the *option* of having the giant spider tell me what I'm most suited for.

Like, have career placement evaluations that are actually super effective that people could opt in/out of at will.

Not OP

That'd be best, but between complete freedom and being assigned something without any other option, I'd prefer the latter.

This is a good idea. Some people just don't have any clue what they'd be good at and want some direction. Effective aptitude/placement evaluations would be a great way to give people some idea of where they should be looking or what to try.

Sadly, IRL most of these sorts of tests are a joke and give you the same sort of vague results/advice you could get from an internet quiz or a newspaper horoscope.

Agreed with this. I've always wanted something accurate like that, because I struggle with finding direction and motivation. But from my experiences in employment so far, I like a different kind of jobs to what I'd really expect and what results on those things show.

We took a test my senior year of high school for this, and it gave me the extremely specific occupation suggestion of forensic entomologist. I was so confused.

Is this an April Fools joke? Because the thought that "person who examines the insects that eat/live on corpses" was actually an option in a high school aptitude test is simultaneously kind of cool, really bizarre, and a little scary. Especially considering how generic all the aptitude test results were at my high school.

It is 100% not an April Fool's joke. And second place was just... 'English teacher'.
