I had temporary dentures for a while, but I don't wear them anymore. I'll be 27 in a couple of months so it's been really rough to get used to the idea that I'm < 50 years old and dealing with this kind of thing.

If you need anyone to talk to about it, anon, feel free to PM me. I swear if I hadn't had people who understood what I was going through at all, it would have been a horrible experience. And thanks for your comment--I don't mean that in a douchey way, but I've been playing around with a rough draft of a memoir dealing with my dental problems and the depression I still struggle with because of them, so your comment just reminded me that, shit, there are people out there who have problems similar to mind; I should stop being lazy and finish it!

That said, I also drank from a rural well as a child. I'm sure that didn't help!

:( My grandma had all her teeth pulled at about the same age you did. It was really hard for her too - according to my mom, she probably only needed a few out, but the dentist gave her some bullshit excuse for pulling them all. Still, she's gone on to live a perfectly normal, healthy life, and the only people who have ever known she wore dentures have been ones she's told.

Your memoir idea sounds fascinating; you should totally do it.

Thanks! I will have to try harder at it.

Sadly I have TMJ so bad that I can't wear dentures--my only option are implants but holy CRAP the COST! Ahhhh! It's not so bad, though. Most of my problems just revolve around how awful it makes my face look to not have the structure that teeth provide. Bleh!

Aw man, I'm sorry to hear that, not least because I hear TMJ issues are no joke. The potential for so many major and diverse medical problems stemming from abnormalities in one little area (or two I guess) seems like a serious design flaw in the human body.

Adding sympathies for you. My dad's teeth all came out by the time he was ten, which was in 1958, and he's had dentures the rest of his life.
