anyone who dislikes a female character simply because they get in the way of a slash ship (meaning it wasn't going to happen even if she didn't exist) is an idiot.

just saying.

(not to say that you aren't allowed to dislike them in general, but if that's your sole reason shut up.)

The OP didn't say that was why she didn't like that character.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-02 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They certainly implied it.

They actually really didn't. They explicitly said that was something they were being accused of, not what was actually happening. Learn to comprehend writing.

you sound bitter

(Anonymous) 2013-04-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Or right. :)

DA

No, they sound like they comprehend what they read. Does that make you bitter?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-03 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. This was my first reaction as well.

If you dislike all characters who get in the way of your desired ships, regardless of the genders of anyone involved, then at least you're consistent?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-03 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not if it was Torchwood, come to think of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-03 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't agree. There are a ton of characters (male or female) that I can't love because they get in the way of my desired ships. Frankly, as long as you're not bashing them or being all ~ragey fangirl/boy~ about it, I think it's perfectly understandable.

I mean, obviously, if you're so completely in love with ANY ship you're going to find it really freaking hard to like the character who is getting in the way, amirite? And it's hard to love a character when you resent the role s/he plays.

I watch Doctor Who, and while I don't ship anyone (well, not from the New Series, anyway), I also resented Mickey a little bit because of his relationship with Rose. I didn't ship Nine/Rose or Ten/Rose, but I thoroughly enjoyed the adventures Rose had with Nine and Ten, and because Mickey (and Jackie, come to think of it) threatened that, I found them to be personally displeasing characters.

Regardless if it's because a character gets in the way of a desired ship, or desired character development, or a desired plot direction, that character WILL simply NOT be improved of because they get in the way of what we want to happen. Why that's unreasonable, I have no idea (unless, like I said, you're being all psycho about it)

Is it ok to dislike a guy for getting in the way of my ship, though?
