I'm sorry you were treated that way, OP - just because some people who have the same character preferences as you in these instances are horrible doesn't mean that everyone who does is. I pretty much agree with all of the secret, except perhaps the Rose/9 thing. I sort of shipped that, but wasn't the most interested in seeing it be canon. It was more that Mickey was an impediment to Rose and 9's relationship, whether it was friendship or romantic or anything else, because he was a commitment - a tie - that Rose had to earth, complicating her travels, and I wanted to see her off having awesome adventures in space like all the time or something, I think. His jealousy didn't help, either, though it was understandable.

But he grew on me too, as I think he was meant to. I was disappointed not to see more of his life being a badass and dating Martha.

And OT, but damn, this is a really good pic of him.

Yeah, Mickey was kind of a jerk at times.

But he grew and I grew to like him.

RTD wanted Mickey and Martha to be in CoE and I REALLY wish we'd gotten to see that, but ah well.

Wait, really? Well that's a possibly awesome opportunity missed. :(

Though, as you say... ah well. At least I might find fic about them if I can ever be bothered to look. That's something.

Yeah, I think things just ended up not working out with Noel and Freema's schedules so that idea was scrapped, but I believe RTD intended to set up a relationship with them so that their marrage in EoT wasn't out of nowhere.

I'd always had a feeling that was the case given Gwen's comment about Martha on her honeymoon but I'd never known for sure. I wish we could've seen them in CoE because I just wanted more of them in general but I was perfectly okay with the seemingly random ~reveal in EoT. Possibly because it never seemed that random to me? They met in Journey's End and it's not hard to imagine that they connected over their time with the Doctor and their decisions to walk away from him and forge their own paths.

There was some drama at the time as the scripts had been written with them in. There was a story in a tabloid about RTD tearing up his scripts. According to the tabloid stories it wasn't an amicable thing. Freema A decided to go and do the Law and Order thing, and of course Noel Clarke was way too cool for it by that time, having got a new rep as a director with very trendy indie films. So they didn't want to do CoE.
