Actually, it's exactly what it sounds like. Castiel is an angel. Occasionally, he touches people's souls. It's a thing. Not one of the better parts of his character (it's just kind of cheesy and weird) but fandom has grabbed onto it and hasn't let go.

Understandable. I really hate the whole ''soulfisting'' label. It makes it sound like something it's not.

...did this crop up somewhere after season five? I remember the whole dragging-Dean's-soul-out-of-Hell bit and found it interesting, but that's the only time I can remember him actually touching a soul (and that was in his angel form and left a burn, so...)
