This is p. much why Cad Bane is my favorite Star Wars villain: he's ruthless, greedy, and evil simply because he chooses to be. In a way, it was kind of refreshing to me. So far as I know, the EU hasn't given him a tragic sob story... and I hope it remains that way.

It probably won't. The EU ends up giving every character no matter how minor a tragic backstory, given sufficient time to do so. It's, like, the Star Wars EU equivalent of the law of entropy or something.

For me its Palpatine. I mean, we get some motivations in Darth Plagueis, but he's still mostly a mystery and mostly just evil.
