In that case, try "[Boyfriend], it was really sweet of you to buy this movie for me, but we've seen this a thousand times by now. Let's watch [other thing] instead." If he has a problem with that, then he's being unreasonable.

Oooh, this. Though the boyfriend seems like the obsessive sort, so the OP might have to wait a bit if they decide to go that route. I know my girlfriend gets addicted to things like films and tv shows. I can't even hear the name "Harry Potter" anymore without wanting to weep, and the sound of the Doctor Who theme song is enough to make want to run and hide.

And oh god, don't get me started on Hayao Miyazaki films. If not for the fact that my girl would murder me I would have chucked out all her DVDs ages ago.
