By multiplayer I mean the "fight with your friends against other teams of real players or points."

I'm not sure how ME does it but I imagine it uses game maps that are repurposed as solely for killing other people.

Oh in that case I think multiplayer was just kind of tacked on to ME3 tbh, it's not what people would be thinking of when they recommended it to you. It's much more of an epic space opera with some stupid game mechanics attached to it than a Multiplayer combat game.

The multiplayer is co-op, you don't go up against other players, just waves of enemies. Think of Gears of War's horde mode. Sounds boring to some people I guess, but there's so many varied character kits that its easy to mix things up, and they're not just based on Shepard's class choices and his/her squadmates. It's fun, but it's starting to wane a little because the MP is no longer being supported actively and less people play nowadays. But I've had a blast on it and my N7 rating is kind of embarrassing.
