Re: Should I give Mass Effect another chance?

The Citadel is like...1/20th into the game. It is a chore to do, believe me.

However, if you're really not interested in talking to people, listening to characters, meeting aliens, learning about the galaxy...yeah, Mass Effect 1 is especially not for you. Mass Effect 2 and 3 get heavier on the action, but Mass Effect 1 has pretty clunky combat and lots and lots of walking around and talking.

I love the series dearly, and it's quite possibly the series with the most potential for emotional investment I can think of in video games.

The multiplayer doesn't come until ME3, and I was surprised to find I really liked it. It's completely unnecessary to the single-player experience, and the main draw is the single-player.

But why didn't you buy it for the PC?

I only have a laptop, which, while technically has the capabilities to play ME, there is something wrong with it and any time I play a game, even a small graphic usage one, my computer overheats and shuts off. :c

1/20th? Damn! But I actually do really like going around, talking and whatnot. I'm a Final Fantasy aficionado, after all. ahaha It's just the combat which was, as you say, clunky and just horrible. I couldn't get a grip on it.

Trust me, you'll see a massive improvement when it comes to ME2 (and even better in ME3). I suggest just setting it as low as you can to get through it.

I think you'll like ME, then. ME is really powerful in how it can foster strong emotions for your companions--don't worry if it's hard to feel that way in ME1. It's kind of dated in that sense, but the series gets progressively better. Each entry has its own pros and cons. But the beginning of the game dragging and dragging is a definite con from ME1.

If you do end up finishing it, post again in F!S about your feelings! I'd love to hear what you have to say. And try and stay away from spoilers.
