Yes, this is exactly the way to do Tumblr. I only follow one fandom-related tag and it's a smaller fandom so it's not full of garbage like the larger fandom tags are. (Not to say that shit doesn't show up in it, but it's not nearly as often as in other fandoms.) I only try to follow people who think similarly to me fandom-wise, and who don't cause a lot of wank/drama. It works wonders.
