Have you read the rest of Robin Hobbs stuff? I just ask because I adored the liveship traders (which I think takes place in the same world) but could never get into the Fool series, and actively hated Shaman's Crossing. I've been burned by Robin Hobb, but I want to love her :(

Yes! I've read all of her books set in the Realm of the Elderlings, and utterly adored, them. I didn't like the Soldier Son books as much, but I found they got better after a while. The Fool is by far my favorite character, so it was kind of a given that I loved the Tawny Man books, but they definitely have their flaws and I don't blame anyone for finding the series hard to get into.

I'd definitely recommend you to give the Rain Wild Chronicles a try if you enjoyed the Liveship Traders, though, since they pick up one of the major threads from those books.
