I got sad because when I was a kid, I didn't believe in any of these figures. So I kind of understand.

I never believed in any of those figures, but the movie still made me a bit sad because I felt like I would've enjoyed the movie more if I'd seen it as a kid regardless.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of adults still imagine their fun adventures, OP. There's a kink meme with a surprising amount of worldbuilding and headcanon on it.

But yes, I do understand the sentiment of wanting badly to believe something, but knowing that you'd only be deluding yourself. I fall into that trap all too easily. :(

Hey there, slow down... Are you telling me that you stop believing in the moon when the sun comes up? Or when clouds block it out?

The Guardians will ALWAYS be there. Even when you can't see them.

My 12 yo daughter is just as disappointed they aren't real either. When our eldest child figured out at almost 4 that Santa wasn't real we never perpetuated the myth of any of the characters. It never bothered her until she watched this movie.

Tbh, I'm kind of glad the RotG version of Jack Frost isn't real. He was insufferable to me.

I actually suffered from the "boogeyman" when I was a kid. "He"'s called a different name in my country, but the syndrome is the same. For years I would see a shadowy figure sitting or standing near my bed and watching me. I started sleep-walking as well, I had night terrors where I would wake because of my own screaming.
It needed therapy to make this shit go away.

So I'm glad he doesn't really exist either ;)

How does not being able to believe something isn't true ruin it for you? Why do you have to be young to imagine their adventures? This secret confuses me.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
IS true, rather

but that's a poorly worded sentence all around

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but the movie is kinda centered around how great and important it is to believe...

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're right, it totally is. I guess that message fell flat for me (but then it always does)

Still enjoyed it though.

I never believed in those figures, even as a kid, but I'm glad to enjoy the idea of believing in them at any age, it's a lot of fun.
