Re: So you may have heard

Sad.

I mean, it's... I mean, he's been quite sick for a while, so it's hardly a surprise. But I'm sad that he was gone, he was a mostly-decent and usually interesting writer on movies. He had good taste and he was able to put things in an eloquent way and I liked his writing a lot. And I'm sad he's gone.

Despite him being very sick, he's one of those people I never thought would die soon.

So on this day of reflection I say again, thank you for going on this journey with me. I'll see you at the movies.

D:

Farewell, you incredible man. May you never have to watch a terrible movie again, even though it was hilarious reading your reviews of them.

I was surprised to burst into tears when I saw that. I guess I don't follow him that closely, but I always look up his opinion and grew up reading his books and watching him on tv (my parents are movie buffs). Now I'm finding out he was already doing great things when my parents were kids.

As a little kid, I used to watch him and Siskel argue it out on TV on Sunday mornings. Looking back, I think that it's odd that such a little kid would be interested about movie reviews but there was something about the two of them that was just entertaining.

My heart just sank when I heard the news. And I mean, I was never a big follower of his (I should have been, since I want to get into film criticism), but his announcement yesterday just seemed so hopeful and then to hear today that he's already gone is just... crushing. Ugh.

:( :( :( :(

I never thought about him dying before. I have heard he was sick, but the idea of him dying didn't occur to me. It seemed like he'd be around forever.

That's so very sad. He was such a neat guy, and i loved his discussions and reviews of movies.

I'm honestly really bummed out about this. Easily my favorite critic, and one who clearly loved film and wrote what he felt, regardless of anything. I really trusted his reviews. Despite being sick for a long time, it feels way too soon.

Oh, wow. I really loved his reviews; his personality and grasp of entertainment was just so fun and intelligent. He'll be missed.

The Onion posted a rather sweet little send-off for him, in the form of a review.
