But I'm sad that he was gone, he was a mostly-decent and usually interesting writer on movies. He had good taste and he was able to put things in an eloquent way and I liked his writing a lot. And I'm sad he's gone.

I guess I don't follow him that closely, but I always look up his opinion and grew up reading his books and watching him on tv (my parents are movie buffs). Now I'm finding out he was already doing great things when my parents were kids.

I never thought about him dying before. I have heard he was sick, but the idea of him dying didn't occur to me. It seemed like he'd be around forever.
