How to kick a cold

(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
My week's been mostly crappy, and it's culminated in a headcold that I got from my coworkers, which ultimately got me sent home early today. I'd like to not have to miss work tomorrow, so tell me, f!s, what are your home remedies for colds?

For sore throat: gargle with warm salted water or drink a mix of warm water, lemon juice and sugar. Milk and honey/warm tea also works.

For congestion: Vicks VapoRub in a bowl of hot water and a towel over it so you can breathe in the steam. Or you can rub some on you chest before going to bed. Paracetamol for headaches, and sleep.

Take care, anon!

Hopefully you don't have what I've got; I've been down with what I'm pretty sure is the flu since about Friday. I recommend orange juice, chicken soup, Sudafed (the real stuff), and plenty of sleep.

I'm on week two of the current "flu-like illness" that is making the rounds here. I can recommend peppermint tea brewed very very strong, with liberal additions of honey and lemon juice. Seconding both Vicks VapoRub suggestions above; I have also read on the Internet to put it on the bottoms of your feet and then put an old pair of socks on (i.e. socks you won't mind never getting the smell out of), but I have never tried that because supposedly what you put on the bottom of your feet goes into your bloodstream, and it says right on the bottle not for internal use.

Campbell's chicken soup with lemon, garlic, and ginger (in high quantities) added to it is usually my go-to curative potion.

Feel better soon, anon!
