Well yes, that's why I'm trying to not get too invested in Clara. I always inevitably lose a connection with Moffat's characters because they become secondary to his plots.

Yeah...

OTOH, unlike River--who only shows up in episodes written by Moffat--she'll be written by other people, and thus hopefully get a chance to be more than just a plot device.

True, but that still makes me worried that Clara would go the way Amy went, and that her personality would change or growth would be ignored to fit the plot.

I just need to have low expectations, it makes it easier for me to enjoy something when I don't expect much.
