Hey, it was a legitimate concern ;) I spent two hours in the supermarket the first time I went, just because I was reading so many labels to see what was actually IN it. HFCS is scary shit.

Yeah I hate it too, it's in a lot of stuff it didn't even used to be in, too, like bread. When I was growing up you could only find it in soft drinks and some condiments, things like that. Now they put it in everything. And the foods that don't have the HFCS tend to cost a lot more.

It's because of agribusiness and huge corporations like Monsanto that make a ton of money off of corn and lobby the government for subsidies, etc.

Yeah - I managed to find HFCS-free bread, but it still had added sugar in it. And yeah, companies like Monsanto scare the shit out of me. Good food, in America, is VERY damn good (San Francisco is basically bliss), but conversely, the bad is very, very bad...

If I do end up moving there, my food bills are going to be pretty damn high, since I'm going to try to aim for as much as possible being organic.

Austin has been pretty good so far. There's a million restaurants here and most are pretty healthy, there's a lot of vegetarian (or vegan... I don't like veganism in general but though it was worth a mention) options here, stores like Sprouts or Wheatsville that have organic and natural foods, farmer's markets, grass-feed beef and range-free meat, etc.

Heh, I actually am vegan (wasn't when I was in the States), so that'd be nice ;) I was thinking San Francisco, so there's plenty of choice there, but nice to know that Austin sounds good!

San Francisco is really nice and so is all of Northern California but Austin is a lot cheaper (if you don't mind living in Texas, though I forget I'm in Texas living here)

True! I'm just pretty much in love with San Francisco and the Bay Area, heh. Seattle would be nice too! Ah well, we'll see how things go in the future.
