I totally have some total srs thoughts about that. Back then, there was no gc, so most of the personality you could gather about a regular (aside from visiting the journals) was to track their usual threads (eg: such and such people pop up in certain fandoms' secret threads.

gc flips that a bit since now everyone can mingle and be so darn shippanle. Doctor Who fans chatting with Venture Bros fans? Omg omg omg!

Of course, to call yourself an ultra f!s fan, you had to have tracked members from before secrets getting their thread 8)
