Baking woes

Tried to make some challah bread for the first time today. I failed miserably. I just got a flat loaf of jalapeno/cheesy bread. :(



It doesn't even taste that awesome.

Bummer! It's impossible to say exactly what went wrong, but a good tip when baking bread is to place it on a long/rectangular baking form (I'm sure it has an English name I don't know... I mean something like this http://www.bakformar.net/358-533-large/slat-brod-sockerkaksform-5-olika-storlekar.jpg). That way you force it to rise, instead of simply float out.

This is so cute. I love cooking and can do it all day, but I cannot bake for my life. The last time I made cookies was a tragedy; they were too runny and melted into one wide, thin cookie. I give up.

Well, my mom just told me she liked the way it tastes. So I just gotta find a use for it. Too thin for sandwiches. : /

It still makes my mouth water! Mmm. Cheesy bread + jalapenos is a weakness of mine.

Was the yeast fresh? Did you proof it first to see if it was working?

I've never made challah before but I've made good bread & I've made doorstops. The latter usually happens because of bad yeast or something going wrong with the rising.
