Shonen manga has forever desensitized me to "horrible antagonists you want to die gaining a sympathetic backstory and only dying AFTER you start to like them." He was a racist sexist murderous redneck bastard the entire show and you desperately wanted him to get eaten; then he does some not-terrible things and shows a little softness and gets a bit of brotherly bonding and is actually pretty funny and badass, and you think he might be able to turn himself around, and LOLNOPE.
