I've had mixed results with betas. I've had them fall off the face of the Earth and I've had some who were fantastic and super awesome. My problem with betas is that I just hate asking someone over the internet who I don't know to do that for me. I feel so indebted to them and weirdly like I'm using them. Hence, I tend not to write a lot of fic.

The thing is, even if you have a beta, things will be missed. It happens. Always. You just learn to either edit it or let it pass.

With friends, you can generally expect them to be more honest, too. They know your strengths, style, and potential. Having a friend can be more reliable in that sense.

ALSO: HEY BB I MISSED YOU. <3

True. That's why I use my friends for my original work. However, some people fear their friends won't want to upset them and so go easy on their work. I don't have that problem but apparently it's a thing.

I still can't ask my friends to look at fic though. They're all too busy for that.

Hey~! ;) I missed you too! I haven't seen you around in a while. Doing well?

It tends to be a thing if you don't lend yourself openly to criticism. x__x; I've seen a lot of people's work suffer because of it.

I'm doing well. :) Got very distracted for a while with some stuff and then got busy with school. Figured I'd come by-- and I was super happy to see you're still as active and lovely as ever. <3

Ah, I can see that. Must be why I don't have a problem then. Criticism of my work makes me absolutely giddy. I've actually freaked people out by being too enthusiastic about it.

I have a similar story. Finals. My computer was in repair for a while. But, who can resist this place? It seems the answer is neither of us. I can honestly say I'm quite pleased to see you here too and being as fabulous as always.

You always know how to make a fella swoon. <3

I strive for constructive criticism in my art. I like having things pointed out for me to learn how to do better next time. It's an ever-changing experience. :D

Then it's a skill we both possess.

I feel exactly the same as you. Improving is the best part. I like always getting better at what I love. (I once had a class where we weren't allowed to give critique. It drove me mad and I didn't learn much because of it.)

I hate those kinds of classes. It drives me bonkers when no feedback is given. How are you supposed to improve without it?

How are you supposed to improve without it?

I honestly do not know. It just seems so counter-productive. I'm in the class to learn. Why are you stopping me from learning? It got to the point a whole group of us would meet after class to critique each other. We were using our free time to do what we should have been doing in class.

That is so frustrating to me. x__x; At least you were able to mitigate the problem together, though.

That's why I love study groups.

That's why I love study groups.

Yes. They are beautiful things. Study groups made me bilingual. I swear if I didn't have them I would not have my language requirement.
