He may be scum, but he offsets that part of his image with charity work (I don't like the guy, but I'm not going to knock him for doing some good), so that covers his reputation.

As for career, he shows up and he does the work.

That's the difference, and that's why Lindsay is where she is. Her personal and professional life is in a shambles, because she put it there, and she's made no attempt to get it together.
