It's a way to get your work out there and get some practice. You have to practice your craft anyway, why not make a few bucks off it? Artists who do commissions for years before getting their foot in the door of a cartoon studio or comic book company are still considered "real" artists.

And a lot of UTTER SHIT is "actually published". Just look at any bookstore.

Is cheap ebook erotica great literature? Of course not. But you still have to write it. And if people are paying you for it, yeah, you have the right to call yourself a pro.
