That's what you got out of this secret?! As an abuser, it's possible HE was the cause of her depression.

I don't know, I have a mental illness and I am the first to admit it puts a huge strain on my relationship with my spouse. I can understand people wanting to leave a relationship rather than dealing with that, NOBODY should be OBLIGATED to put up with someone's mental illness (especially if it isn't well controlled or the person in question isn't doing anything to try to keep it under control).

Also, how abusive can he really be if he left this person? That's not how abusers act, if he was really THAT abusive he would've stayed or convinced OP to stay with him so he could continue the cycle of abuse.
